This Women’s Month, we celebrate the remarkable women who shape Bidvest Prestige, driving excellence across Healthcare and Hospitality. Sue, a cornerstone of our operational leadership, shares insights from her journey and the evolving role of women in these sectors.
“Bidvest Prestige’s values resonate with integrity, excellence, and a commitment to people,” Sue reflects. “Over the years, I’ve seen how those principles aren’t just buzzwords but are woven into how we work and serve. The impact we make in environments that truly matter, like hospitals and hotels, keeps me grounded and proud to stay the course.”
Over her career, Sue has witnessed significant shifts in women’s leadership. “It’s been incredible to see the growing visibility and influence of women, especially in leadership and operational roles. There’s more space now for diverse perspectives, and I’ve seen a shift from just ‘being present’ to actively shaping strategy and culture. The most meaningful change? Women leading with empathy and accountability and being recognised for it.”
Leading in high-pressure, service-oriented environments requires a blend of resilience and humanity. Sue emphasises, “Resilience, Adaptability, and Emotional intelligence are non-negotiables. But I’d add courage the courage to challenge norms, back your team, and stay calm under pressure. These sectors demand high performance and compassion in equal measure, and strong female leaders bring both to the table.”
A defining moment in her career came during Covid, when teams united under unprecedented pressure. “Watching our staff step up, often putting others’ needs ahead of their own, was humbling. It wasn’t just service, it was unity. And I knew then, more than ever, that this work mattered.”
Sue also highlights the importance of organisational support for women leaders: “It means visibility, mentorship, and a seat at the table. Bidvest Prestige doesn’t just talk about empowerment, it invests in it. I’ve seen women across levels grow in confidence and skill, knowing they’re backed by a culture that believes in them. That ripple effect is powerful; it’s changing lives and shaping the future of our industry.”
This Women’s Month, we honour women like Sue, whose leadership, empathy, and courage continue to transform our workplaces and industries. Their stories inspire us all to lead with purpose and make an enduring impact.
